Joe Gitterman is a sculpture from Connecticut. His abstract and realistic pieces, inspired by the human body, are created out of materials such as: marble, wood, clay, lead, copper, sheet metal, wax, bronze, aluminum, and stainless steel.
Joe Gitterman is greatly influenced by the human body, specifically the shapes, gestures, and momentary poses created by dancers. The lines of dancer’s bodies are often the source of inspiration that he sets to capture in his work. Through observation and sketches, he conceives a visual image of a motion and attempts to infuse that motion into three- dimensional material. His sculptures are an abstraction of gesture frozen in mid flight
"For me, movement is the breath of life: it releases the power, or subtlety, of any form in repose - the promise of action. My sculpture examines the relationship between fixed form and movement: each sculpture attempts to suggest the transformation that is possible."
Joe Gitterman has been featured in two group shows at the Behnke-Doherty Gallery in Washington Depot, CT. He was also voted "Artist of the Week" by Visual Overture Magazine.
