An exhibition of recent landscape paintings by Williamstown artist John MacDonald will be presented at The Harrison Gallery from December 2 – 27, 2006. A reception with John will be held Saturday, December 2, from 5:00PM – 7:00PM. The Harrison Gallery welcomes the public to this event.
John MacDonald, who is a well known local and most noted for his mastery of digital woodcuts, is presenting a show of new paintings in his original medium of oil. Painted on-site, or en plein air, these works are a seasonal celebration of the Berkshires. This collection combines a delicacy of tonality with a maturity of paint handling that creates living landscapes, though John seeks to avoid forcing narration or the romanticizing of a scene.
John MacDonald received his BFA from Washington University of St. Louis, and his MA from Purdue University, where he studied drawing and painting. He has also studied art at the Institute for American Universities in Avignon, France, and the Vermont Studio School in Johnson, VT. In addition to his career as a landscape painter, John also works as a graphic illustrator for such noted publications as Architectural Digest, the Wall Street Journal, and Barron's. He is a member of the prestigious Society of Illustrators as well as the Illustrators Partnership of America and the Graphic Artists Guild.
