Opening Reception with Artist
Saturday, May 5 – from 5 PM to 7 PM

The Harrison Gallery will be presenting a solo exhibition of paintings by Leslie Peck from May 5 - 30, 2012.  This is Peck’s first solo show with the Harrison Gallery.  An opening reception with the artist will be held on Saturday, May 5th from 5 – 7 pm and is open to the public.

Leslie Peck, a New York native, was educated at the Fashion Institute of Technology where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art. She then spent a year studying art in Italy at the Scuola di Lorenzo De Medici in Florence, before apprenticing in Rome with renowned illustrator Alessandro Biffignandi.

After a sucessful career as a romance book cover illustrator, Peck now resides in Grennwhich, NY where she elegantly paints portraits of farm animals and still-life objects which reflect the beauty and simplicity of the everday and her own rural surroundings.

When speaking of her work Peck says, “Painting farm animals and still lifes of the products of our region is one of my great passions. Each animal has a noble purpose in this world and I try to bring out the subtle beauty and simplicity of their nature. I have found the same eloquence in the vegetables, eggs or even bread that I try to portray in my oil paintings.”

Peck’s work consistently shows her extensive background in portrait painting. Utilizing strong contrasts in light and shadow, Peck is able create classic, yet bold portraits of beautiful animals and delicate still lifes that convey a delightful mood.

As Pecks says, “The great philospher and poet Rumi put it well when he wrote, ‘Every object, every being, is a jar full of delight’.”
